Cette exposition présente des femmes dont le regard est caché par une tache toujours différente : unregard que l’on scrute et recherche comme dans un cache-cache visuel. Cette tâche est chromatique et métaphysique. Elle nous renvoie au principe inhérent que toute chose tend à se répandre, contournant les obstacles, débordant des cadres soigneusement établis par l’homme. Ainsi, la peinture devient une tentative ; contrôler une matière mouvante qui tend à fuir constamment, laissant une trace de son passage. Elle se confond avec l’image abimée par les risques du hasard. Cette confrontation constamment présente dans son l’œuvre de ce jeune artiste met en relief la tension permanente qui s’inscrit au travers de tout élément constitutif de notre univers.............................................Yet, the stain - always different - hides the expression of these women; it is an expression that the viewer seeks and scrutinizes within the visual hide-and-seek, the absence and presence. Relative to color, the stain is chromatic. Relative to the world, it is metaphysical. It brings us to the inherent principle that all things tend to inexorably scatter, bypassing obstacles and going beyond the frames carefully established by Man. Thus, painting for Baker becomes a trial: to control moving matter which tends to constantly flee, though leaving a trace of its passage. The traditional portrait becomes confused with the finished image, as it has been threatened by the risks of chance. This ever present confrontation in Baker’s work shows a permanent tension that, in truth, is part of everything constituting our universe.............
