Tom Baker
Tom Baker is a young French painter trained in the Beaux-Arts ateliers of Paris Glacière. During his formal studies in art, he discovered the power of oil paint, which became the medium par excellence for his artistic reflection.
The works of this painter reflect an unquestionable taste for texture and for working the oil paint into creation – creation of the Painting but also creation of the world. This approach is his starting point for a deeper reflection on expiration.
The first stage of his work is to carefully and attentively construct the faces of women, and then distort them. He then drops the bridle of beauty - traditional and commercialized beauty – and its form, a beautiful face. The second step consists of affixing paint or other substances by dripping, pouring, blowing, and constantly working the distortion within the ‘traditional’ work of a portrait. This step is gushingly faster and savored all the more so because the first step is that of slow, controlled patience.
This approach thus becomes a struggle, at once humorous and cruel, searing and meticulous, between protection and destruction |
